How to Adjust the Excerpt Length Shown On Subscription Only Content
There are several ways to control how much text your excerpt displays in each article before the subscribe nag is displayed.
1. To set the teaser length for every post: go to Leaky Paywall > Settings > Restrictions and set Lead In Elements. Enter how many blocks of the post (paragraphs, images, headings) to show before the subscribe nag, and click Save Settings. Set it to 0 to show only the nag.
In Leaky Paywall 5.3.0 and later, Lead In Elements sets the teaser for every restriction method. Custom Excerpt Length has been removed. If your site uses the Server restriction method, your teaser used to be the first Custom Excerpt Length characters as plain text, so check a restricted post after updating and adjust Lead In Elements to suit. In earlier versions, Custom Excerpt Length (characters) set the teaser unless Alternative Restriction Handling was enabled, in which case Lead In Elements did.
2. The WordPress excerpt field does not change the teaser shown on the post itself. In Leaky Paywall 5.3.0 and later it is what your RSS feed shows for a restricted post, followed by a "Read the full article" link, so the full text doesn't go out in the feed.
3. If you want to precisely control how much text and images are displayed before the subscription nag use our Lead-In add on along with our shortcode.
- Set the lead in paragraph to an high number like 50 so that everything is showing along with the nag at the end.
